Happy Boxing Day! Susan here. Traditionally, particularly in the 18th and 19th centuries, the day after Christmas, December 26th, was a day to acknowledge servants and tradesmen with gifts, sometimes with money or presents, and - especially for household servants - a gift of boxed leftovers and a day off to visit their families. The day's celebration changed over decades from charitable giving to a bank holiday, then eventually to a day of watching football . . . today it is often seen as a shopping day, perhaps to use a gift certificate or return a gift for refund or exchange.
Whether you're boxing up leftovers for others, boxing a gift for someone, or boxing up an online return ... here's wishing you the brightest and the best of holidays!
