Anne here, and for your entertainment, here's another quiz on a book you haven't yet read, The Rake's Daughter, which comes out on July 26th. A few reviewers and some of the wenches have read it, but that's all. So it's not testing anything—you can only guess at the answers — it's just for fun.
I'm also trying to avoid spoilers here — it's intended to give you a little taste of the book to come, something a bit different from an excerpt or a blurb.
So here it is, a fun little quiz on a book you haven't read. Make a note of your answers, check them on the link at the bottom and come back and tell us how you went, and whether you enjoyed it or hated doing a quiz on something you can't know. I'll be giving a copy of The Rake's Daughter to someone who leaves a comment.

8) Leo sends the two girls to live with his aunt because:—
a) his house is a mess.
b) he believes their company would be good for his aunt.
c) he's a bachelor and it would be improper to have two young unmarried ladies living under his roof.

c) is eager to marry the girls off as soon as possible.
d) is appalled by Leo's plans for them.
Now you have guessed the answers, click here and find out the answers. Then come back and tell us how you went. Did you enjoy this, or was it irritating to be quizzed on a book you haven't read? (Be honest, I won't mind.) I'll be giving a copy of The Rake's Daughter to someone who leaves a comment.
I never get these things right :) - but I got 7 out of 10 on this one.
I knew there would be dogs in it somehow ;)
I've already ordered the book so please don't include me in the drawing. One of Jeff Bezos's minions should be bringing it on the 26th :)

I guessed the right answers for numbers 2, 5 and 6. I would love to win this book. Thanks for the chance.

I can't wait to read this book. I requested my library to purchase it as well.

Completing the quiz was lots of fun. I kept thinking about each option and trying to decide which one would most effectively raise the stakes in an unexpected way. I’m looking forward to reading your latest book. Thanks for providing such an interesting alternative way for us to engage with your latest novel, Anne.
Posted by: Sharon Bryant | Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at 11:17 PM
There was no expectation of being right, so it was fun to picture each of the options as scenarios. Can't wait until your release date!
Posted by: Julie | Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 12:27 AM
Great fun. 4/10 for me. I was sure that Lady Scattergood would collect cats ... a house full of stray dogs could be like bedlam .... perhaps she is also hard of hearing LOL!
Looking forward to the audio release on 26th of this month. 😊

5/10. Good fun. I was sure Lady Scattergood collects stray cats 🐈😁. I can't wait to read the book.
Posted by: Kum | Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 03:35 AM
No expectations - that's good because I only got half of them right. Looking forward to this book. Loved the SCOUNDREL'S DAUGHTER.

Janice: The Official Wench Rule:
A) If there are dogs, it's Anne

Wow! I hadn’t realized there was a fact check sheet! 🤣 I only got two right! I guess I created an entirely different story. Oh well. I like the story even more now.
Posted by: Laynis | Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 08:53 AM
The quiz was an interesting pre-view of a book I know I will enjoy. I only guessed at 3 correct answers.
It sounds like a good book that I will enjoy reading.
Posted by: Beverly Abney | Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 09:06 AM
I answered all of one question correctly! The book sounds like a lot of fun, Anne, and I wish it every success. The names Studley and Scattergood amused me.
Posted by: Kareni | Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 09:50 AM
Got 3/10 right
Posted by: Phyllis Bernstein | Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 10:34 AM
This was very fun - even choosing the wrong answers. LOL. I think I got one right - All of the above!
Posted by: Jeanne Behnke | Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 02:25 PM
I got 4 wrong. Not bad. Looking forward to reading this book.
Posted by: Sally Fortney | Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 02:48 PM
I managed to know half. Quizzes are either annoying or fun. The novel is a real treasure.
Posted by: Laini Pearl | Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 03:03 PM
The story sounds captivating but the quiz is difficult. I guessed 6 right.
Posted by: April | Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 03:06 PM
I never do very good on this type of quiz. I got 4 correct.
Posted by: Priscilla | Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 03:22 PM
That was a fun quiz - makes me want to read the book even more.
Posted by: Pam Roberts | Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 03:24 PM
I got three. I need to protest about #9; Lady Scattergood apparently does collects orphans, she's got Izzy & Clarissa. Just joking. I envisioned for #7 that Leo might have bribed her to to get lost, kissed her to his chagrin, given her a rose and then gotten his face slapped.
Don't need a copy - I also have mine on preorder to be delivered by the minions.
I continue to be thrilled about winning a copy of the Scoundrel's daughter.
Thanks again Anne
Posted by: Robin R | Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 04:03 PM
This was fun! I got 5/10. I realized that I gave Sir Bartleby and Leo the benefit of the doubt when I shouldn’t have. I should have known better; well behaved characters don’t always make for an interesting story. 😉
Posted by: Alison | Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 05:24 PM
I enjoyed this. I love all your books and wish you were James Patterson putting out multiple books a year but then I probably wouldn’t love them so much
Posted by: Rose Apter | Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 05:29 PM
I only got four answers right, Annie, but it was fun to see the names of all the other quizzes that have been given before on the answer sheet! And I can't wait to read this new book as I've loved all your previous stories.
Posted by: Meg | Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 06:38 PM
I only got about half right. Looking forward to the new book.I bought Last Chance Christmas Ball just for Mistletoe Kisses. many thanks Anne.
Posted by: nic | Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 07:06 PM
I only got five out of the ten correct.
I love reading your stories, Anne, and I look forward to this new book as well.

Enjoyed the quiz didn't do very good got 4/10
Posted by: Sally Lovers | Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 09:05 PM
Well 3 of 10....but I kept changing my answers as the questions went on because if she is saying this and offering these answers then obviously Q 1 & 2 can't play out that way. So on and so forth. Grin.
It was fun even though I only got 4, 5 & 8 correct. I always enjoy the guessing quizzes as much as quizzes on real knowledge.
Posted by: Vicki L | Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 09:15 PM
Only 5 out of 10 for me, I got better as the quiz went on. I didn't mind I was simply guessing. It was fun.
Posted by: Sonia Bellhouse | Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 10:01 PM
4 of the 10.
Posted by: Maria Ferrer | Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 10:44 PM
I just got this in my inbox 4 minutes ago and look at all the comments already!!!! Geez!!! 4/10 for me (yep too slow all round) and I really enjoyed thinking about all the options. I have already pre-ordered this book as I do with all of Anne's books. Not long now until it is released, yay!!!
Posted by: Isabel Redwin | Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 10:59 PM
Anne - I nearly aced the quiz: I got 9 out of 10 right. Of course, I was so fortunate as to be able to read an advanced copy of The Rake's Daughter. (I will give away no spoilers.) Except to say - yes Anne does dogs and Mary Jo does cats. However, there were cats in the Chance sisters books - the cats ruled the roost and were able to lord it over Jane's ugly dog. And The Rake's Daughter does have a guest cameo appearance of cat worn around a child's neck like a collar. Just sayin'...This weekend is set aside for re-reading The Rake's Daughter. Anyone who hasn't read it yet is in for a major treat. Can't wait for the next book in the Brides of Bellaire Gardens series.
Posted by: Binnie Syril Braunstein | Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 11:11 PM
Must be an interesting tale, since the average score seems to be around 3.5/10, lower than the usual 6 or so for previous quizzes. Well, we can lose the quiz, but not the book. Can't wait for this sure winner!
Posted by: Mary M. | Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 11:48 PM
The quiz certainly got me interested in the book and gave me a giggle. I only guessed one question correctly!

Well done, Janice — that's a great result. Thanks for playing. And thanks for ordering the book.
Posted by: Anne Gracie | Thursday, July 21, 2022 at 04:18 AM
Not quite true, Mary Jo — I have had cats in some of my books, but yes, dogs are generally a good bet.
Posted by: Anne Gracie | Thursday, July 21, 2022 at 04:19 AM
Thanks for playing, Sharon — good luck in the draw.
Posted by: Anne Gracie | Thursday, July 21, 2022 at 04:19 AM
Thanks, Pauline — and thanks, too for asking your library to buy it.
Posted by: Anne Gracie | Thursday, July 21, 2022 at 04:20 AM
Sharon, that's a good way to approach it. I must admit that sometimes when I'm making up these quizzes and coming up with alternatives I wonder why I didn't make a different choice here or there in the writing. But the books evolve the way they do and hindsight is a fine but useless thing. Glad you enjoyed the quiz.
Posted by: Anne Gracie | Thursday, July 21, 2022 at 04:22 AM
Thanks, Julie — glad you enjoyed it. And not long now 'til publication day.
Posted by: Anne Gracie | Thursday, July 21, 2022 at 04:23 AM
Thanks Quantum — it could easily have been cats, but dogs worked better for the plot, Besides I had a VIC (Very Important Cat) in the previous book. And yes, a house full of dogs could be bedlam, but I know someone with 5 little dogs -- all strays that she's adopted -- and it works well. Thanks for playing.
Posted by: Anne Gracie | Thursday, July 21, 2022 at 04:25 AM
Thanks Kum — seems quite a few people chose the cat alternative. Thanks for popping into the Word Wenches. Hope you enjoy the book.
Posted by: Anne Gracie | Thursday, July 21, 2022 at 04:26 AM
Thanks for those kind words, Mary — and half right is really pretty good.
Posted by: Anne Gracie | Thursday, July 21, 2022 at 04:26 AM
Don't be sad — I work hard at making the various choices plausible. Hope you enjoy the book, Lola — thanks for playing.
Posted by: Anne Gracie | Thursday, July 21, 2022 at 04:28 AM
Thank you, Laynis. I hope you enjoy the book. And yes, the choices could make for a really different story — that's part of the fun of the quizzes.
Posted by: Anne Gracie | Thursday, July 21, 2022 at 04:28 AM
Thanks, Beverly — I hope you do get to read and enjoy the book. I'm pleased you enjoyed the quiz.
Posted by: Anne Gracie | Thursday, July 21, 2022 at 04:29 AM
Kareni, I work had at making the choices a little bit tricky, so one is fine. And I'm glad you like the names.

LOL Robin — you're right about the orphans, and yes, that scenario with Leo could have been fun. Thanks for pre-ordering the book, nd I'm delighted you enjoyed The Scoundrel's Daughter. Thanks for playing.
Posted by: Anne Gracie | Thursday, July 21, 2022 at 04:37 AM
You are so right about well-behaved characters — and half right is quite a respectable score. Thanks for playing, Alison.

Thanks Rose, I wish I wrote faster too. James Patterson writes with other authors who do a lot of the writing work, which is how he can produce so many books. Thanks for playing, and for your very kind words about my books.
Posted by: Anne Gracie | Thursday, July 21, 2022 at 04:41 AM
Meg if you so a search on the Word Wench site for QUIZ you will find those other quizzes, and you can still do them and check your answers the same way. Thanks so much for your kind words about my books. I'm so pleased you enjoyed them.

Oh, thank you, Nic. The other wenches and I had fun writing the stories for that anthology. I'm so pleased you enjoyed my story.
Posted by: Anne Gracie | Thursday, July 21, 2022 at 04:44 AM
I only got three right! That’s ok though, the plot points from the right answers of the quiz make me excited to read the book!
Posted by: Lauren M | Thursday, July 21, 2022 at 05:21 AM
I got 6 out of 10! Somehow I knew that Clarissa would want to keep her sister, but in my alternative plotting, their father would give them 6 weeks to marry(wrong!) therefore naturally they would want to come to London to look for husbands(correct!). I also guessed correctly that Leo would send the girls to his aunt for all of the reasons, that he would try to bribe Izzy, and that Lady Scattergood would be appalled. However I thought that Lady Scattergood would collect exotic birds.

I never get these things right but it was fun. 3/10 for me and lucky to get that :) You really need to know a bit about the characters to have any chance. Looking forward to reading it. Sounds like it's going to be fun too.
Posted by: Teresa Broderick | Thursday, July 21, 2022 at 12:33 PM
That was fun, even though I only got half of the answers correct. But it whetted my appetite for the book, which sounds like a bit of a romp!

5 right … but the ones I got wrong make me even more excited for this book!!
Posted by: Tracy Hall | Thursday, July 21, 2022 at 03:23 PM
7 out of 10 for me — I figured it would be dogs for this one after the cat in the last - and Binnie Syria answered my hope that we’d meet that cat again! I’m also hoing that whenever this series has to end, Anne, there might be another Wenchs’ garden party for all the characters!
No need to put me in the drawing - I even turned on “notifications” (quelle horreur!) just to know the minute it arrives!
Posted by: Constance | Thursday, July 21, 2022 at 03:48 PM
I got 4 right!

I got 8/10 correct. It’s funny how men that sleep with anything and are very promiscuous have daughters!? I think of this as Karma for hearts broken or lives ruined especially when women had so few choices!
When I think of prostitution then I cringe and cry but I am thankful this case is not the norm! 😘 Happy writing!

LOL -- what do you mean "nearly"? You've read the book — you should have aced it.
And thanks for the defence of the dog and cat so-called Rule that my friend Mary Jo is claiming exists. If so, then I'm a rule breaker.
I'm so pleased you enjoyed reading The Rake's Daughter. Thanks, Binnie.

Lady Scattergood is something of an exotic bird herself, actually, but I needed it to be dogs this time. And I was inspired by a writer friend of mine who also adopts dogs and at one stage she had five little ones.
The 6 weeks to find a husband would have been fun, I agree. Thanks for playing.
