Every year, the Mt. Adams neighborhood in Cincinnati hosts their annual Reindog parade, in which dogs are dressed in their holiday best. There's no fee for participating, but donations are gratefully accepted.
And every year, my animal loving and cat rescuing friend Laura Resnick attends with friends of hers, and sends me pictures because I love seeing them!
Some dogs clearly love the attention. Others look pretty--hangdog, if you'll excuse the expression. <G> Prizes are given in different categories. on the left is the winner of the under 25 pound category.
Much as I love cats, I can't imagine them participating in Reincat parades!
Mary Jo, whose favorite is the Lion Dog
Yup, can't imagine a cat being taken for a drag with this crowd—or any, for that matter.

Reindog, a fundraiser for a local animal shelter, is always a very happy occasion, with most of the dogs reveling in all the attention they get. The parade moves slowly as the costumed dogs keep stopping to greet spectators and fans all along the route—which is about one square block. Very young, very old, and very small dogs get tired along the way and are usually being carried by the time they're in the home stretch. Most labradors have eaten their costumes by the end of the parade. Afterward, everyone disperses to find hot and/or adult beverages in the establishments along the parade route, and some of the places welcome dogs on that day.

So true, Mary M. Cats are not into obedience. *G*

LOL, Laura! I've admired the pictures for years, but your description brings it more alive, especially learning that most Labradors eat their costumes. I've heard that labs are eating machines, and apparently that's true!

Karin, I'd love to see one of these in person!

Christina, I agree that Reindog Parades should be held EVERYWHERE! Joy is always welcome.

I have a friend that had 3 Labradors - all lived outside in a fenced in yard. Lets just say...they would indeed eat anything. The house. Black plastic pots. Bumper on the wife's car. Packages UPS tossed in the yard inside the fence.... The stories were endless.

What an enjoyable post about a fun event, Mary Jo. I like the lion dog, too!
I don't know what kind of dog it was, but I can attest that the dog of the person who once rented our home ate siding off the house and also chewed off parts of the shower surround. No fun there.
