The holidays are over! You've:
Roasted your turkey.
Navigated and possibly refereed your relations.
Watched or fled the football games.
Wrapped presents or shoved them all into gift bags because that's easier.
Taken the ornaments away from the cat.
Eaten all the Christmas cookies/fruitcake/latkes and wished for more, or decided enough already!
Watched the ball drop at midnight of 12/31 to usher in 2015 (though in some Maryland towns, it might have been a crab, or a donut or a canvasback duck that dropped. <G>)
Made your resolutions.
So now:
RELAX.
I like January because it's usually such a peaceful contrast to the holiday season.
January is a good time for working.
A good time to get together with friends to brighten up gray days.
A good time to toss those resolutions that are totally unrealistic or involve self-hatred.
Instead, do things you enjoy. Watch a favorite flash mob video.
Or a cat video. (It's well know that the infrastructure of the internet is pictures of cats. <G>
Read a good book.
Read SEVERAL good books!
Enjoy the peace.
And maybe the bagpipe flash mob or Irish stepdancers. <G>
What do you like to do in January?
Mary Jo
In January, or any cold month, I love to settle down in my favorite chair with my favorite blanket, a good book, and whatever stitching project I'm working on. If I didn't have to eat, I could sit like that all day!

Gail--
A woman after my own heart! Except that I wouldn't have the stitching project, but with luck, I'd have a cat. *G*

I thank you for the flash mobs. A couple I had seen, but a couple I had not. It is grey and rainy and yucky, and reading a good book is just what will make me smile.

Annette--
I love a good flash mob--the Ode to Joy one is probably my all-time favorite. As for how to deal with a gray, yucky day--it's not surprising that people who like books visit us here at Word Wenches! Enjoy those bad weather books.

I loved the bagpipe flash mob, thanks! I am going to be doing some knitting this month, as well as reading.

Karin--
Knitting sounds soothing and appropriately wintery, especially if the result is a sweater or scar for some such!
And if you feel like exploring, there were several other bagpipe flashmobs on youtube. *G*

Took the words right out of my mouth in one of your comments, Mary Jo - to wit:
Ahhhh. A woman after my own heart. Thanks for reminding me of The True Purpose of January.
Wishing you & everyone a bountiful and bone-deep satisfying 2015.

We did none of the things mentioned for Christmas or New years. No turkey or cookies or watching peaches drop. Did have an abundance of chocolate. My tree was less than 24 inches tall. I did read many books, did some sewing and knitting ( can't do those things while reading) and watched How the Grinch stole Christmas. Received Amazon gift cards which I am hoarding like a miser hoards his gold while I look at what is currently out there and soon to be published. MY daughter gave me a bag of books as well. Choices, choices!!January is not a particularly restful month as I realize all I didn't accomplish in the previous year and look ahead to obligations of February. It usually is a nasty month for weather with the threat of ice storms. It brings back memories of having tree limbs through my roof and the expense of a new roof and the downward spiral to having to move and get rid of 100's of books. January is also the month to start thinking about doing taxes. I generally just hope to get through January with minimal damage.

Thanks for the good wishes, Faith! January really is an ace time for cozying up with a great book. And cats. And maybe a fireplace.

Nancy--your Christmas sound lovely and book-filled, but I must admit that your January looks daunting: ice storms and tax stuff, ugh! And let's not think about tree limbs through the roof! I hope your January is smoother and brighter than you're anticipating.
