Today I'm going to talk about the things that make Sparky unique. Specifically, I'm going to talk about Sparky's intense curiosity when anything new is brought into the house. The above Priority Mail box is an example.
But first, a little background for anyone new visiting this blog: as most of you know, I adopted Sparky when she was a 3-week-old orphan. (See details in the link at the end of this post.) She's a year old now, and healthy in all respects but one--she suddenly and inexplicably went blind last month. Prompt attention on my part, and diligent care on the part of two veterinarians, brought about a miraculous cure. Sparky has regained a good portion of her eyesight, but it came at a budget-wrecking cost.
This is when the Sparky Fan Club kicked into high gear, resulting in an outpouring of emotional and financial support from those who have come to love Sparky through my weekly reports. (There's a donation page for Sparky here) And thus, we come full circle to the reason for this post: Sparky's intense curiosity. The following pictures show Sparky investigating a box that contained a gift from a Sparky fan--Theo, who posts comments on a regular basis. The gift came in a box, and Sparky immediately claimed the box for a toy.
On the same day Theo's gift arrived, Wench Susan King's Sparky-related gift also arrived. Unfortunately, I didn't think to take pictures until I opened Theo's package.
And now, even more fun for Sparky! I just placed a box that had held Costco groceries on the floor, and already she is inside, sniffing away!
You do realize that on Tuesday when I have a big networking meeting and some one says that "We need to think outside of the box" I will have to make an effort not to giggle.

OMG, Sherrie, that is too funny! Sort of like, give the kid an $800 dollar bike and he'll play with the box it came in. She is just too, too funny. And you're right, the dogs had to nerf the box before it could leave the house and Garth at one point had decided it might make a good bed, only to find it was too hard. And I won't do the three bears analogy ;)
Told ya she'd adapt! Fantastic!

Oh Sherrie, I so look forward to reading about Sparky on a Monday (we in Oz are a bit ahead of you time wise). Your first picture always brings a chuckle and really sets me up for the week. I'm glad Sparky is coping so well with her eyes now. Keep it up Sparky.

LOL, Shannon! Sparky definitely thinks outside the box, and I'm glad to hear that her antics will give you a giggle.
That cat does love her boxes. Right now, she is lying in the lid to a Bankers Box. I'm packing up a bunch of stuff for storage, and the weather is quite hot. I believe Sparky finds the lid cool. Or maybe it's that the fan is blowing across the lid. *g*

Theo, Sparky was sooooo interested in that box! It gave me plenty of time to get my camera and take a series of pictures that I was certain you'd enjoy. Of equal interest to her was the Nook that was inside the box. I'm surprised she didn't hyperventilate with all that sniffing!
You are so right about the $800 bike and the kid playing with the box it came in. Time and again I have bought fancy toys for Sparky and the dogs, only to witness them playing with the package the toy came in. Animals! Gotta love 'em!

Jenny, Sparky will be happy to hear she gives you a chuckle on Mondays. (She gives me a chuckle--and sometimes a sigh of frustration--every day!)
Sparky does seem to be coping with her diminished eyesight. I'm just thankful she has regained enough sight to make her life more comfortable. It is such a huge relief, considering how upset I was when I first discovered her blindness.

How gorgeous she is - a real credit to you, Sherrie

My mother gave me a beautiful antique writing desk for my birthday, which necessitated a move of my computer. Now I halfway forget to go get on it! Sparky is smarter than I am!! ;-)
But another round of great pictures and chuckles on a rainy Monday morning. So glad that Sparky (and therefore you) is/are doing so well.

Hi, Catherine. I'll pass your compliment on to Sparky. She really *is* gorgeous, isn't she? Wish I could take credit for it, but other than feeding her super-premium cat food, which gives her a luxurious coat, all the credit goes to Sparky's good genes!

Donna, I am a desk freak, especially antique desks. At one time, I had six desks, but now I'm down to a sensible four. *g*
Thank you for the compliment on the pictures. Sparky is a never-ending source for fun and quirky pictures. I take pictures of her just about every day. Unlike you, with your rainy Monday, we are sweltering here in the Pacific NW with an expected high of 93° F. today. As a result, Sparky has been spending a lot of time sprawled in unladylike poses in front of the floor fan. We'd be happy to send you some sunshine if you'll send us your rain!
