Oh, my Sweeties,
Oh, my dears,
Look out, my loves,
Here comes New Years'.
We're going to party
under a shiny new sign
Eat, drink and be merry
in 2009!
We won't spoil this one.
Or mess it up.
We'll tootle and clang and get drunk as skunks
Come fill the cup!
...but don't we say that every year?
Aren't we always glad to sweep out the old and welcome the new?
It isn't always our fault when a year goes sour. Some stuff simply isn't in our power.
I mean, it isn't as though we're responsible for tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes and tsunamis, blizzards and such privation.
We don't start landslides and floods, forest fires and oil spills, smog and inflation ...
never mind.
Instead, let's concentrate on the NEW.
As for me:
In 2009, I resolve to:
Hmm. I have lists and lists of all the neat things I vowed to do last year, the year before and onward backwards for years. I am not always true to those vows.
So this year I will simplify. In 2009, I will:
Be nicer
I think that about covers it.
( and I'll bet I fail by about.... January 10th, at the outside. I know me.)
How about you?
What are your New Year's resolutions?
And for all: A HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I make no resolutions anymore. I can't ever seem to keep them. Life gets in the way! Like the year I resolved to take better care of my car and the next week, someone totaled it. Or the year I resolved to lose ten pounds, then found out I was pregnant with such a difficult pregnancy that I gained 85.
*sigh*
I no longer bother...I only end up sabotaging myself.

Great post Edith! I love the rhyming.
I'm not so much into resolutions but goals. My goal is to earn 10 rejection letters by year end, 2009. I'd like enough to wallpaper a room... but that might be expecting too much.
Nina, who got four Edith Laytons for Christmas!

Oh Nina - I had enough rejection slips to paper a guest bathroom by the time I got accepted!
And you know? I'm glad I didn't do that. I'm thinking they might make great re-reading material. (But my ego isn't strong enough for that yet. Maybe some other year)

Loved the post Edith I don't tend to make resolutions never stick to them but one thing I would really like to do this coming year is to retire so as I have more time to read and spend with my family
Have Fun

No resolution could be nicer than the one that you made.
"Be Nicer"
Think what the world would be like if all could "Be Nicer".

Happy New Year Edith and Wenches! I pretty much resolve not to make any resolutions, LOL. But I want to continue writing daily, even if it's only adding an adjective and removing an adverb. And I do want to occasionally leave my desk to get some fresh air and exercise, even if I live in Maine and it's hideous winter. One of my kids gave me those ice creeper things you put on shoes, so I have no excuse now except for utter inertia.

Resolutions sound just great.
I make them and anticipate
a carefree life, a thinner me,
but 31 January
the mirror shows the pounds around
and in my life cares still abound.
So for New Year’s 2009,
my wiser resolve is to find
more joy, more love, more dreams to seed,
more faith, more friends, more books to read.
Happy New Year, everyone!

Our family tradition is for each of us to make a resolution for someone else in the family, so I don't know what mine will be yet! I am starting a new venture in the New Year, about which I'm very excited: going back to school to get a master's in instructional design. I'm hoping to get the degree before my eldest gets her bachelor's in 2010!

Oh, I love this post. I've never been able to get anything to rhyme.
New Year's resolutions? I don't think so. I know what I want to do, but I keep the plans to myself. I don't tell anyone until I get there. Maybe that's not the right way to do it, but it works for me.
I just read "A Bride For His Convenience". Love it. And thanks for the blond hero (I love blonds!), even if the cover model has dark hair.
Happy New Year.

Thanks, Linda - glad you enjoyed my Bride.
btw - I love blond heroes too (blogged about it a few times) but seems that art directors do not with a capital DO NOT. Neither do marketing folks. Dunno why.
C'est la vie, and again, Happy New Year to all, including blondes, art, and marketing directors!

A New Year's limerick:
I hereby resolve thus highly
to try and become more smiley
to love the annoying
my charm thus employing
I'll end the next year less vilely.
Happy New Year! :-)

Sometimes we wonder, as we can be happy about, but we do not know is that the answer is in front of our noses, happiness is in being with the people around us do not have enemies, and always be beside God...
