This is Mary Jo, not Edith, and that's for real, not April's Fool's Day. As of tomorrow, WordWenches will have a new schedule--our faithful whipmistress, Sherrie, will post more about that later. So Edith is off frolicking in spring flowers, and I'm doing a short joke post, assuming I'm capable of writing short. <G>
If you're interested in the history of April Fool's Day, visit Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/April_Fool%27s_Day Note that even though the underlying premise of Wikipedia is that visitors can create and modify posts, that's blocked for this particular entry because April 1st was bringing too many joke changes. <G>
This particular joke came without attribution over the internet so I hope I'm not stepping on any copyright toes, but it's too much fun not to share:
threats that have raised their security level from "Miffed" to
"Peeved". Soon though, security levels may be raised yet again to
"Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross". Londoners have not been "A Bit
Cross" since the blitz in 1940 when tea supplies all but ran out.
Terrorists have been re-categorized from "Tiresome" to "A Bloody
Nuisance". The last time "A Bloody Nuisance" was noted was during
the great fire of 1666.***
Thank you, Mary Jo!
I just sent that nugget to a dear friend of mine who is not only English, but today's her birthday, too.
Google has a very funny April Fool's joke up today. Check out TiSP Beta!

I love British humor, Mary Jo. Great post! Jane, thanks for the heads up about the Google TiSP Beta. Too funny!
April Fool's Day is one of my very favorite holidays. I come from a long line of practical jokers, and Mom and my siblings and I used to play jokes on each other all the time. As a family, we laughed a lot.
By the way, I hate to use this public forum for informing you, but I can no longer be your blog administrator, as you Wenches work me too hard. APRIL FOOL!!!!! I love this job, and it's one of the reasons I look forward to going to work every day! (And you can't beat the commute: 14.378 seconds from the bedroom to the computer in the family room)

White rabbits!
White rabbits!
White rabbits!
Does it count though if you type it rather than say it?

Mary Jo... great joke. I will pass it on to the British friends I'm staying with. They are not the sort to say "We are Not Amused," though I think in general the British are Not Amused by the whole hostage thing at the moment.
I'm sorry to say I don't get Francois' White Rabbits reference. Anything to do with feeding my head? Enquiring minds want to know.
