Oops, almost forgot it’s Tuesday. Two days of gorgeous weather has obviously addled my gardener’s brain. All that wonderful new landscaping outside my office window is just begging me to come play.
Which means my mischief Muse is on the loose and my curiosity is roaming around, looking for trouble. The other Wenches are probably ducking for cover as they read these words. I’ve already stirred up scandal by asking for fantasies, thumbed my nose at corsets, and sneered at all the intellectualizing with which the educated among us insist on sprinkling this blog. (and I even used “with which” grammatically for the gurus among us, even though—despite editorial ignorance—ending a sentence with a preposition is perfectly legitimate unless one speaks Latin)
I shall attempt to pretend at professionalism. This is, after all, a promotional website of sorts, so I’m totally interested in promotion. On slow days, anyway.
I told my editor that I wanted to write epilogues for my Malcolms and Ives, little novellas showing how the children are growing up and what mischief their wyrdness might get them into. Sure, I can do it on my website, but that costs me money since I’m a techno-idiot and can’t speak html. I could do it here, but that would be at the expense of my fellow Wenches, and they’re likely to throw plum puddings in my direction. Which would likely cause an unpleasant and messy war when I struck back with brickbats.
So, strictly in the interest of professional curiosity, how many readers would be willing to pay money for an e-epilogue (short story) if a publisher produced one? And how much money, if any, would one be willing to pay for words that can only be read on a computer or printed from one? Given the cost of paper books these days, e-books may be our main alternative in the not-too-distant future, so don’t immediately cringe at the suggestion. Think about it. Let me know.
Pat, off to hide with the gnomes under the mushrooms
