Nicola here, wishing everyone a very Happy New Year from all
the Wenches! As well as being a new year it’s also a new month. January, which
was known as Wolfmonath in the Anglo Saxon calendar. In the Northern Hemisphere
January is a
dark month with long nights and winter weather. Yet it is also the
month when snowdrops and winter aconites start to push through the earth to
signal the start of spring so it is a time of new beginnings.
January takes its name from Janus, the Roman God of bridges
and doorways. Janus has two faces, looking both forward into the new year and
back to the old. So as well as being a time perhaps to make plans and
resolutions for the new year, January also gives us a chance to reflect on the
good things that happened in the past year. For me a couple of the UK highlights
were the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee which made so many people feel incredibly proud
and patriotic, and the London Olympics, which created a mood of enthusiasm and
euphoria throughout the country. On a personal
note, training Rochester the Guide Dog puppy has been a
great experience and a research trip to Edinburgh was a real highlight.
Looking
forward into 2013, I am very excited about the launch of my new Regency series, Scottish
Brides, in the summer and also to some very special anniversaries during the year!

special plans for 2013?
How did I not know about this site until this past weekend? I've spent hours scrolling through page after page, bookmarking posts that are pertinent to my research. I declare you Wenches amazing and humbly bow down in appreciation!
My fond memories of 2012 all revolve around my kids: My youngest started walking, my middle reading Austen with me, and my oldest meeting one of his heroes.
For 2013 my biggest plan is getting serious about my writing. I've fiddled around long enough, it's time to do something!

The highlight of 2012 was the birth of my granddaughter, who after an eventful arrival 12 weeks early, is absolutely wonderful. 2013 sees me on the editorial team of a brand new quarterly magazine - Swindon Heritage - launching the end of January. Both my 'babies' look set to keep me busy in the next 12 months. Thank you wenches for all the wonderful reads.

Lovely post. In 2012 I succeeded in getting an agent and a 3 book contract. All the books will be out in 2013. So I'm very happy about all of that. Now I just need to write the ones for 2014.

2012 was a fine year, with wedding, writing, and travel, but I'm kinda hoping that 2013 will be a little quieter. *G*
