Cara/Andrea, what a fabulous trip to be taking. I've never been to Portugal and would love to go.

I'd like to spend more time in Spain, too, especially the southern cities with all the wonderful moorish architecture — haven't been to the south of Spain either. And then I might have to pop over to Morocco...

Hmmm, my feet certainly are itching. I haven't been anywhere this year except to the RWAustralia conference.

Cara Elliott/Andrea Penrose

Anne, I visited Lisbon once many years ago, before I started writing, so to see it with a new perspective, and new understanding of its place in history, especially the regency era, will be fascinating. You would adore Morocco. I visited Marrakech a few years ago and loved it! The colors, the architecture, the souks, the aura of rich history—just amazing!

I would love to visit Lisbon too. I had an amazing summer. I spent 2 weeks studying at Oxford (and got grad credit too). Port was served with cheese and fruit as the last course of our farewell dinner. What a lovely way to learn. We had a trip to Blenheim and then in London, I took myself to the V&A (2.5 hours is not enough) and then took the tube to Apsley House (thank you Nicola for the recommendation). Portugal showed their gratitude with an amazing silver dining service.

Oh, was a wonderful experience, Lyn! I'm green with envy—would love to study for a bit at Oxford.

The V&A and Apsley House are two of my favorite spots in London. So glad you enjoyed them!

Susan/DC

I've never been to Lisbon but have heard lovely things about it -- it's definitely on my list of Places To Go.

This year I got to the Lake District and York. I'd never been to either before and loved both. My husband, lucky man, leaves for London on Monday. We originally planned that I would go too (my idea of heaven is two trips to England in a year), but he now has a conference in Australia in November, so I gave up the second trip to England in hopes I could accompany him to the conference. Not sure it will happen, as it's very expensive, but we will see.

I would love to visit Lisbon!I've never been to Portugal, but I was fortunate enough to visit the coast of Spain many years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. I haven't done any international travel in many, many years. I have my heart set on visiting London one of these days. Sigh.

Jo Beverley

I visited Lisbon many years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. I remember the coach museum!

I was told, and I think it's true, that Portugal is the only European country that Britain has never been at war with.

Oh, Susan, lucky you! The Lake District is high on my To Visit list. Thee picture are so spectacular, and to tramp in the steps of such history.

Hope you get the Australian trip—another place I yearn to go!

Cara Elliott/Andrea Penrose

Interesting fact, Jo!

I'll try to take pictures of the Coach Museum and do a future blog on it. It looks amazing!

Lisbon is delightful. The coach museum is well worth the time spent, and you'll undoubtedly spend considerable time there.
I recommend also a lovely palace out from the city (accessible by train or car if you're driving) housing a splendid costume display and gardens.
We're quite fond of Sintra--especially the little custard pies that are only made there!
Enjoy your return visit!
