Loved the interview :) Great writing advice from you, Julie. It says it all really. Mmmm... as to your question, working as PA to Mr B Cumberbatch while he's on location on a South Seas island could tempt me!

Anne Gracie

Fab interview, Nicola. Welcome to the word wenches, Julie. I've read and enjoyed several of your M&B's, and I have to say I love the sound of this book -- it sounds like such fun. I've ordered it already.

And may I suggest that you could always bring that sex scene workshop to Australia? Our annual romance conference is in August each year. (breathtakingly subtle, eh? ;)

Julie

I loved the idea of this book. Romantic summer job? Definitely working at one of the English stately homes. Or if I had to stay on this side of the Atlantic, then in Williamsburg.

I rarely buy paper books any more, but might have to make an exception for this one. Any plans for American publishers?

Julie Cohen

Sandra, I think I would probably kill for that job. Perhaps Mr BC needs two PAs...?

Julie Cohen

Thank you Anne, it is lovely to be on the Word Wenches at last after being a reader for some time now!

I hope you enjoy Summer. So excited that you'll be reading it! Though I'm always a little bit scared when fabulous and knowledgeable authors read my stuff...

I would LOVE to come to Australia. It might have to wait till my kid grows up a little. It's on my dream list.

Julie Cohen

Julie, we don't have a US publisher for this book yet, though it should be available for Kindle in the US. I think. Try here, perhaps?

I've never been to Williamsburg and I would very much like to.

Nicola Cornick

Thank you so much for visiting the Wenches today, Julie! I'm so happy to have the chance to talk about The Summer of Living Dangerously - such a great book!

I guess I am particularly lucky as I do have what is for me the perfect summer job as a tour guide in a stately home. It's fabulous!

I'd love to visit Williamsburg too. And Australia!

Ruth

Welcome Julie. What a wonderful and interesting interview. I enjoy your books greatly. Love your sense of humor shining through. An ideal romantic summer job for me would be anywhere in Italy as a tour guide. Just perfect.

Pageturner

I used to work in a bookshop, which sounds quite romantic - floating about in a tea-gown recommending the latest light reading to appreciative matrons. All I ever did, though, was heave boxes of books from one floor to another - and Pledge the covers of the hardbacks. (Pledge is a spray-on cleaner to remove fingermarks etc, and we had to do all the top books as they would get very grubby).

Amy Medeiros

My idea of a romantic summer job would be to work at a resort somewhere near a beautiful beach with amazing surroundings.

Kay Kerkeslager

I love Regency books and like new authors. Iam going to look for this book.

Mary Jo Putney

Julie, welcome to the Word Wenches! I'd assumed you were British by birth, so I'm tickled to find that you're a Down Easterner, and even co-wrote with Kathy Love when you were a tyke! (Kathy now lives in my area in Maryland.)

The book sounds delicious, and I'm hopping right over to The Book Depository to order it. Grommets and all. *G*

Ellie

The Summer of Living Dangerously sounds compelling and unique. The emotional aspect appeals to me since it involves real individuals and the characters are well portrayed. A romantic summer job would have to be at the beach for sure,at the ice cream parlor, that is what summers are for.

Margaret

I enjoyed the post. So glad to have discovered your blog and am now a new follower. My answer to the question is touring as a musician to various summer festivals across North America.

Patricia Rice

Lovely to have you here Julie, and now I'm off to see if I must order from the Book Depository or if there might be some way of feeding my insatiable Nook...

Elizabeth Kerri Mahon

Hi Julie, I spent a summer working at the NY Renaissance Festival in Sterling, NY which was a bit of a disappointment because it was more like Ren World than an actual experience of Elizabethan living. It was anachronism city which was hysterical because they'd given us all these books we were supposed to read on the Elizabethan period. I love to watch shows like Regency House Party, and Manor House. They did Colonial House in the states but I wish they would do something at Newport in Rhode Island.

Ann Stephens

Julie, your book sounds fascinating on so many levels: Regency vs. modern life, dealing with the past in one's present life, and of course Leo vs. James. I must get a copy!

Nicola, thank you for bringing 'The Summer of Living Dangerously' to my attention. It's so going on Mount TBR.

Christina Courtenay

Great interview! I have the book on my TBR pile and I think it's just moved to the top, it sounds brilliant!

Beth Elliott

A brilliant interview. Thank you both, Julie and Nicola.

Cathy Schultz

If you go to Williamsburg be sure to stay in one of the historical rooms or houses in the historical area. It's wonderful to wake up to no car traffic noise. I'd say a summer job there as an interpreter or any job in England (since I've never been there) would have to be romantic. Another choice would be a job on some island--not too hot, though.

Julie Cohen

Wow, I go off to do some writing (and to go to my kid's school's craft fair, and—to be totally honest—to watch America's Next Top Model) and there are all these comments! How exciting!

Thank you to everyone who said they're going to look for a copy of Summer. I apologise profusely if it's difficult to get hold of in the USA. You will all just have to come to England, buy a copy, and then meet me down the pub for a drink.

Julie Cohen

Mary Jo, yes, I am a Down Easter and Kathy Love and I went to high school together. We spent a lot of time not studying because we were fantasizing about hot men. It was the best training for being romance writers, ever. Kathy has mentioned you many times.

Julie Cohen

I am also loving the summer jobs. Ice cream, the beach, foreign travel...

Margaret, I have to admit that my husband goes on tour with rock bands all over the world, going from festival to festival, and he says it is less than glamorous. In fact it is often pretty grubby. But the toilets are better backstage, at least.

ElaineK

This book sounds like a lot of fun. I like the concept of a two-level story.
Dressing up in period clothes at a historic site sounds like fun, too--except I'm sure those clothes weren't all that comfortable.

Annie

This book sounds so enticing and wonderful. What a great idea. i enjoyed the interview and learning more about Julie who is so talented. Best wishes.

Cara Elliott/Andrea Penrose

Thanks for such a fun interview, Julie and Nicola! Julie, your book sounds absolutely delightful! It's now on my To Be Bought List, and I can't wait ti start reading.

Love the observation of Nelson and his, er, crotch . . . what apriceless bit of color for a book scene!

Liz

Shirley Valentine, for sure.

Diane Sallans

Definitely someplace with a beach - warm sunshine during the day & soft breezes with moonlight at night.

Dee

My ideal romantic summer job would involve being paid to lounge in a hammock, reading, somewhere in peaceful cottage country near a pristine lake. Might require an imported cabana boy to bring the umbrella drinks and keep the bugs away. Alas, I suspect the world doesn't see things my way.

Congrats on the release. This does sound fun and it's flagged in my TBR list.

LilMissMolly

Working in a book store!
