Margaret Blake

Sounds like a perfect place for a perfect weekend. What a splendid idea.

Nicola Cornick

Thank you, Margaret! It was a great experience.

Christina Courtenay

That sound like my kind of place as well, Nicola! Last year I attended a high school reunion at a resort in Florida (with people I hadn't seen in 30 years, very interesting!), but although that was nice, I think I prefer your version :)

Nicola Cornick

I like the sound of Florida very much, Christina (especially at the moment when it's cold and dark here!) How amazing to meet up with people you hadn't seen for 30 years.

LilMissMolly

I agree with you that a weekend in the country would be ideal and much more enjoyable at the beach. My friends and sisters never understood why I'm not a beach person.

Tamara Gill

Sounds like a wonderful weekend. My next trip to England we're going to stay in all the old castles that have been converted to hotels. I can't wait!!

Cara Elliott/Andrea Penrose

What a wonderful post, Nicola. Celebrating friendships, exploring history—sounds like the perfect weekend to me!

I have a group of six friend who I went to high school with (and three to college as well) and we take turns hosting dinner for the group plus spouses, significant others about twice a year. (Sometimes it expands to a few other old pals who can make the trek, but the core group is us six)There's something really special about friendships that stretch back so far, and we have such fun sharing the journeys we've all taken in life.

Nicola Cornick

Interesting how some people are more beach than others, LilMiss Molly. I must admit I do like the seaside but the country is so beautiful too. we looked a seaside property when we were planning this trip but it wasn't big enough to fit us all in.

Tamara, that definitely sounds like my sort of trip. I am green with envy at the thought of all those castles to stay in!

Nicola Cornick

Cara/Andrea, that sounds wonderful and exactly the sort of reunions that we enjoy. I don't have any friends from my schooldays whom I still see so my college friends are very special to me. Friendships going back over many years are very precious, I think.

Betty Hamilton

Over the years my sisters and I moved away from the city where the majority of the family lived. The visits became further and further apart as we made lives in our new neighborhoods. We had always been a very close family (9 siblings) so it was difficult to watch us drift apart. Then a few years ago we started to have "sisters week-ends".... just for us (4 sisters)! We plan well in advance, pick a city and a game plan for that city and just go and enjoy ourselves and each other. We have even had a looong week-end in Jamaica to celebrate one of our birthdays!! These week-ends are wonderful and envigorating.

Nicola Cornick

The sisters weekends sound wonderful, Betty. A long weekend in Jamaica. Wow!

Anne Gracie

Lovely post, Nicola. I have a couple of friends from my high school days, and still see them regularly -- well, one of them not so much since she became a volunteer abroad, but when we're in the same country we see each other still. And I still meet up regularly with some friends from previous workplaces.

And each year I go on a writing retreat with a bunch of other romance writers -- we've been doing it a few years now.
And then there are the overseas writer friends I've only ever seen a few times in the flesh, but we communicate regularly, by email and phone.

Mary Jo Putney

Nicola, what a marvelous tradition with your friends! And the farmhouse is so absolutely perfect--let have a Wench getaway there. *G*

Nicola Cornick

Anne, I think it's lovely to keep those links with friends and former colleagues and a writing retreat is something that I have always dreamed of doing!

Mary Jo, wouldn't it be splendid to have a Wench getaway at Luckley!
