It really is fun to see how all the wenches feel the same (great minds think alike, ) I'd love to know if ANY writer likes the middle—I love Nicola's description of it being treacle. Definitely sticky! (And I'm there right now, on a book that's due Dec. 31, so I better start moving a little faster!)

Anne, I also agree with the thrill of getting the finished book in its shiny new cover. Somehow the angst of creating it always seems to pale in light of those bright, glittery colors.

Mary Jo Putney

Wow, we Wenches do think alike when it comes to the stages of a book. The words 'bright' and 'shiny' keep appearing when we contemplate the ideas, and the horror of the Treacly Middle seems universal.

Speaking of which, I'm slogging through one now...

Lyn S

How funny you all have a problem with the middle. I have decided to tackle my middle by only reading the results of your pain while I am on an exercise bike whittling my middle. I think all the treacle/sweets is what built up my middle in the first place. Thank you all so very much for keeping me entertained.

Patricia Rice

My new laptop doesn't remember my password to get into the wenches! Argh. But Facebook remembers me, even though I've blown it up.

I feel better with middles now that I've learned it's perfectly permissible to bring out the gun and shoot things up there, as well as at the end. Writer's Journey gives a good explanation. I just run out of guns sometimes!

Anne Gracie

Bring out a gun eh, Pat? I'll remember that in my next book. It should liven up the ballroom scene somewhat. ;)

theo

I hate the middles. You're saying a gun will help? Does it matter who I shoot? :o)

Anne Gracie

Just not yourself, Theo. It has to be someone imaginary. ;)

Cara Elliott/Andrea Penrose

Am loading up my Manton pistols for the next book, he, he, he.(Thanks, Pat.)

Rich Davies

Definitely what Jo Beverly said...
It's the middle part I struggle with too.
Making it interesting, relevant, carry the story where I want to lead it to.
All very hard but even harder when you just want to get to the end because of this great idea you have...

I do tend to write short stories much quicker, not because they are shorter but because there is less of the middle bit.

Rich

Awww, Anne! Who else would I want to shoot at that point? ;o)
