Susie

This is really fab to know and great to see a conversation about. I have the rights to all my mother's old Regency novels. Not sure about the rest. It's been on my to-do list for ages. I'd love to get her in-demand backlist out there for readers at an affordable price. And any money made would, in my case, go to my kids college funds.

How great would it be to say to my son and daughter -- your grandmother's writing helped you write your own happy ending...

Thanks Wenches! xo, Susie

Best,
Susie Felber, daughter of Edith Layton

Susie--

It was an honor to have your mother as a Word Wench, and the world needs e-editions of Edith Layton Regencies, so I do hope you check out some of these possibilities!

I love that Edith will help send the grandkids she adored to college.

Cara Elliott/Andrea Penrose

Thanks so much for stopping by Susie. Your mother was such an inspiration to me. I hope you get those back titles out there so lots more readers can appreciate her marvelous stories!

Na

I am so glad to see some of my old favourites or even "new" old books coming back to the reading front in the form of ebooks. Sometimes when I discover a new author or just want to read an author's backlist I get pretty disappointed to find it is out of print and otherwise unavailable. It's great that authors who have gotten back their rights have an outlet of bringing their books back to readers. I'll take these books any way I can get them print or digital.

Linda Banche

I am overjoyed to be able to finally get some of these books I've slavered over, but couldn't find.

Besides the bonus for readers in back list books, I also think ebooks will provide a larger variety of new books. Some people don't like mass market, or they skip the parts of the book they don't like. I don't believe in skipping parts of book. If I spend money on a book, I want to read the whole thing.

I suspect there will be a lot more niche books, so everyone can find something they like. And these books will provide work for laid-off cover artists and editors. I just hope everyone can earn enough money to make the effort worthwhile.

A brave new world. I wonder how it will play out

Mary Jo Putney

Na--

Isn't it great that these backlist books of favorite authors are becoming available? This is also giving a chance for good books that never made much of an impact to find the audience they deserve.

I also know several authors who had written two books of a trilogy and the publisher didn't pick up the third, and now they're thinking of completing the trilogy and publishing directly. Lovely!

Mary Jo Putney

Linda--

You're right that e-booking is making it possible for niche books to find a home, and that's wonderful. It takes a fairly sizable number of readers to support print editions, but with e-books, the investment in uploading is very small. and they can be available indefinitely for readers round the world.

I'd like to think that all this will generate enough revenue to support lots of people, but that one is VERY up in the air!

Nina Paules

Susie! I love your mom's (the Great Lady Layton's) work -- especially the "C" series. If you need any help with ebooking, I'd be honored to lend a hand.

Hi Mary Jo -- Great blog. The world of "e" is indeed the next WildWildWest. I'll never be able thank you enough for asking me to eBook your Contemporary series. Wicked learning curve. Amazing results!

To Pat and Susan King -- Thanks for the plugs, Ladies! Susan, early numbers are showing your Author's Cut Editions are ePublishing Works! bestsellers. Readers love 'em.

Ya know, I remember dissing eReaders, holding my print books close, saying eBooks wouldn't take root. So glad I was wrong.

Hugs,
Nina

Mary Jo Putney

Nina--asking you to help with my stalled plans for e-booking is one of my best day's work ever. *g*

You realize, of course, that you don't actually have to give up your print books for e-editions even if you produce the latter!

Susan

I'm loving this post about Wench ebooks, and Pat's post last week, too, about our works in progress and works coming up - even the Wenches need updates on the Wenches! *g*

Thanks, Nina, I'm loving your ePub Works! editions, and I'm gearing up for another round of releases - so readers will soon have more of my early hist roms to choose from!

SO good to hear from you, Susie, thanks for visiting us at Wenches! I'm looking forward to seeing Edith's wonderful books released in e-form (I highly recommend Nina's very professional epub approach).

Susan

Joy Isley

I always enjoy stopping by to see what's new at your site. I can always rely on your reviews and new book introductions.I count some of my favorite romance authors as Wenches.

Mary Jo Putney

Joy--

What can I say but that you have very fine taste? *g* Thanks for stopping by regularly!

Maureen

Thank you for answering my question and I think it's wonderful that stories that you weren't able to read unless you hunted down a used book are now available again.

Susie

Thanks MaryJo, Cara/Andrea and Nina. Your words and help are so appreciated.

Nina I will be in touch. Got about three jobs going now and haven't had time to do this yet.

(and I always stop by! And read your books. I now just lurk!)

Mary Jo Putney

Believe me, we understand busy, Susie! It's nice to know that you stop by now and then to see what your Wenchly aunties are doing. *g* When you have a bit more time, the resources are there for you to get those great Lady Layton books out there.

Stay cool!
