This was really interesting I read a book (Salt Bride Lucinda Brandt) not long ago set in The Georgian times and there was an indoor tennis court in this story and they were betting on the games and this was new to me.
For me though I am not a big tennis fan although my Mother loved it and never missed watching any of the grand slam events on TV for me living in Australia cricket is my favourite summer sport and that I watch lots of LOL
Have fun in New Yourk and best of luck to you and the other Wenches for the Ritas.

Have Fun

Glad you enjoyed the post, Helen! Cricket is a sport I still have trouble understanding, but love the long white flannels!

Thanks for the good wishes—no Wenchly RITAs, but the Conference was lots of fun, and those of us who made it to NYC had a wonderful time spending time with each other!

I loved your article and was glad you mentioned that there is one public court at the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, RI. We live in southern Rhode Island and are only about 10 - 20 minutes (depending on the traffic) to Newport.

Just so you know that if you ever get the chance to visit there is a great restaurant next door to the International Tennis Hall of Fame where you can not only get a great lunch but watch tennis being played at the same time!

Jenny

Great article about tennis. I must say tennis isn't my favourite sport. Like Helen, my favourite sport in summer is cricket (another Australian). However we have a 'Real Tennis' court here in Hobart. I have never been inside it, but pass the small hidden door on the red brick wall each time I drive down the street. I believe it is one of two such courts in Australia. I have no idea where the other is but possibly Sydney.

Cara Elliott/Andrea Penrose

Glad you enjoyed the history, Jeanne. And thanks for the restaurant recommendation —how fun!

Cara Elliott/Andrea Penrose

Jenny, I think there is a real tennis court in Melbourne. You should stop and take a peek inside the little door, even if tennis isn't your favorite sport—it's fun to see the ancient game played.

Tennis courts construction

Nowadays, no matter how serious you are about your sport there is a synthetic grass product that suits your needs, from school sports grounds used by young children to community and professional club usage. GreenPlanetGrass has surfaces that achieved FIFA and IRB standards so you can be sure of their quality, suitability and longevity. If football is not your game then hockey, tennis, cricket and golf all have their own specific synthetic surfaces.
