Fabulous post, Susan. It's always so interesting to see how creative minds work . . . love the inside peek into the other Wenchly heads,

Patricia Rice

Okay, I think the comments are working now. Fabulous post, as usual, Susan! Thanks for pulling it together.

Sherrie Holmes

Sherrie, here. Taking a break from the 100 F. heat to pop in with my 2 cents worth. Like many of the Wenches, Inspiration can broadside me at any time--I never hurt for ideas. A news story, an overheard conversation, a song on the radio, a person limping with crutches out of the grocery store -- any of these can trigger the "what if" and I'm off and running. Coming up with ideas is easy. Turning those what-ifs into a novel is the hard part! *g*

As to the era I write in (Regency), it's because I love the elegance and polished manners of the era, as well as the class distinctions, which make for some very interesting stories!

Fascinating, ladies. Thanks for letting us walk around in your heads for a bit.

I love the Regency era for all of the reasons you named and more - the manners, the gentility juxtaposed with the possibility of unimaginable cruelty and poverty. The facade of the perfect society beneath which so much can be hidden. And you can't beat the clothes, the houses, the furniture.

My ideas come from all sorts of places - a photograph, the story of some the great homes, research books I read - everywhere. I keep index card boxes on each idea as it comes into my head. I try to come up with a tentative title - even it just says "Audley End" idea. Then every time something from that story comes to me I jot it down on an index card and file it away. My second finished manuscript started that way and by the time I sat down to write it I had probably 20 scenes on cards before I started.

Louis

I don't remember if "Sylvester" was my first Heyer, It is my favorite of her many books.

Interesting post.

Thank you for choosing my question! I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the different perspectives.
